The Night of a 1000 Drawings is an exhibition held for one night, where drawings donated by anyone and everyone, are collected and sold to the public for R100 each. In its first year, over R65 000 was raised from the sale of this art to support an organisation called Paballo Ya Batho, which has been feeding over 300 inner-city homeless in Johannesburg, every Wednesday night, since 1989.
In 2008, instead of holding a Night of a 1000 Drawings, the second book entitled "Doodle For A Difference" is being launched. The title sums up everything the campaign is about. Simple drawings can make a difference and impact in society. (Doodles take no time at all.) The130 page book contains over 300 drawings, professionally photographed and compiled to tell a story of an inspiring dusk till dawn journey through the city of Jozi and Cape Town.
The book has been art directed and designed by the Legion Collective (David Q Chong, Shaun Botes, Jono Garrett and Dustin Slabber), a team of designers from different studios that share a common passion for illustration. The production of the book has been financed by Black River FC and Egg Films, and both Papersmith and Son and Antalis sponsored paper. The book launch event is being facilitated by the Deconstruct team and takes place on Thurs 27th November starting at 19h00
